About Us
Our boat is powered by the ecologically friendly Honda 150 horse power 4-Stroke engine. This engine is very quiet and will not scare the birds or put out a lot of smoke. The boat itself is 26 foot long and 11 foot wide, with an enclosed cabin where you will be safe from the saltwater spray. The boat also has a very shallow draft. This means that we can go in as little as 6 inches of water and can get closer to the birds by going where most boats cannot. The boat has three observation levels where you can be eye level with the birds or can get you above the grass for the best viewpoint. A port-a-potty is available onboard the vessel.
Experience Let me tell you a little bit about our experience. My name is Kevin Sims and I grew up on the bays around the Wildlife Refuge, driving and riding in boats with my father who lives in Lamar and is still an avid boater at the age of 82. My knowledge of the cuts through the bays and the habits of the birds year to year has been very helpful in finding the right viewing point. With the capabilities of our boat and my experience, you are not restricted to the waters of the intracoastal canal. We will travel the back bays and lakes, not accessible to larger group tour boats - seeking the best viewing of many birds and bird habitats.
Licensed I hold a Masters License with the United States Coast Guard. Life vests are available for each of the passengers aboard our vessel, and must be worn by children 12 and under at all times.
